Snow Day!

The university was closed today due to adverse weather so I stayed at home and did a bit of drawing and painting.  I have this idea in my head that involves combining chalk (or charcoal, NuPastels, Conté, etc...) with paint, so I thought I would explore that today.  I started off splattering paint and water on paper and then crumbled the chalk into small pieces and dropped it onto the paper.  This didn't exactly have the desired effect but it's a start.  I'll continue to explore this chalk/paint combination and see what I can come up with.  Here are a few shots I took during the process:

And here's how it turned out:

I was listening to Beck while working on this one.

The next painting started out with chalk rather than paint.  I drew the figure, crumbled chalk over the paper then splashed water on the paper.  The effect was pretty cool so I continued with more chalk and more water.  Eventually I hosed down the paper in the shower...yeah, it got a bit out of hand.  But actually even that wound up looking quite good once it dried.  But after all was said and done I covered the whole paper with paint, hiding all of the water marks.  Seems kinda pointless doesn't it?  Well it was fun, and I like the end result anyway.  Here it is:

While working on this one I was listening to Nathan Moore, who has all of his albums available for your listening pleasure on his website: http://www.percyboyd.com/albums.html
